About this plugin

Blurb brings a character to life in Lottie Creator. Type what it should say, upload a voice recording or a video of your own face, and the plugin animates the mouth, blinks, eyes, brows and head for you. The result lands in your scene as native, editable Creator layers with keyframes. Tweak the timing or restyle it like any other animation.

Start with the ready-made cast (Blurb, Bill and Jill), or build your own character in seconds: a soft 3D style, a clean flat style, or a floating head. Pick the hair, eyes, brows, skin, outfit, accessories and colours. Every character can turn its head into a ¾ view, smile, laugh and frown.

Features

Three ways to animate Script: type text, paste subtitles or load an .srt file, and set the speaking pace. Voice: upload an audio file and the mouth follows your voice. Face: upload a video of yourself talking. The plugin tracks your mouth, blinks, gaze, brows, expressions and head movement. Generate a voice: turn your script into speech right in the plugin. The audio is added to your scene and the lip sync matches it. Accurate lip sync: mouth shapes come from phonemes, with automatic blinks and natural idle motion. Multiple languages: scripts work in English, Indonesian, Malay, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Dutch. Character builder: three styles (3D, Flat and Head), with skin tones, hairstyles including a hijab and caps, eyes, brows, mouths, outfits with primary and secondary colours, glasses, beards and more. Head turns: characters switch to ¾ views as they turn, with faux-3D parallax on the hair. Expressions: smile, laugh and frown mouths, and happy eyes. Editable output: named layers and keyframes in your scene, not a flat video. Use your own art: name your layers (Mouth A, Eye L, Brow R, Head…) and the plugin animates them. Or import a character template to the canvas and redraw it.

How to use

Open Blurb from the Plugins panel. Pick a character, or tap Create to build your own. Choose Script, Voice or Face, then add your text, audio or video. Optional: in Script mode, tap Generate voice to add speech. Tap Generate. Your animated character is added to the scene.

Tips

In Voice mode, add the script too for the most accurate mouth shapes. For Face mode, use a well-lit, front-facing video. Customize any character later: open its pencil icon to edit parts and colours.

Known limits

Voice and Face mode use uploaded files. Recording inside the panel isn’t available yet. Without a script, mouth shapes in Voice mode are approximate.

New in version 1.0.1

Blurb 1.0.1: a bigger cast and livelier characters

New

  • Six more starter characters, nine in all: Jill, Nina, Marcus (3D), Bill, Amara, Rafi (Flat), Blurb, Pip, Mochi (Orbs)

  • Masculine / Feminine body for 3D characters (Flat's Body options now use the same labels)

  • New 3D eyes: Googly with a masked iris that stays inside the eye as it looks around, and Sleepy with a relaxed lid

  • Pill nose for Flat characters

Improved

  • Mouths are bigger and clearer, so lip sync reads at small sizes

  • Mouth shapes anticipate and overshoot as they open

  • Orbs squash and stretch as they talk; earrings, bows and the antenna swing with head moves

  • Eyes blink through head turns and glance away in pauses between lines

  • More natural 3D mustache; beards and mustaches follow the hair colour

  • Cleaner hair: no gaps at the temples or corners in ¾ views, with more volume at the back of 3D hair

  • Picker tiles line every character up at the same eye height, each on its own background colour
